I miss my cat. Cleo, more popularly known as “Psssssssst” was taken away from me about 30 years ago - but I still haven’t stopped missing her. She was about the coloring of the cat in this video - a seal point Siamese. And she was every bit Siamese. Very polite soft mew if she wanted something your food, but really, really loud if she thought it was time for her own food. She wasn’t as talkative as the adorable Alaska, but she knew how to make her wishes known.

Oooh they re cute! I can so believe you still miss your cat Mala.. I fear the day my Burmese will not be anymore.. they re more than pets, they re actual companions, arent they?
was purring lots and almost crawling into the monitor! this cat is a real cutie! Mine actually “negotiates” commands like that too, like when he does not want to leave the balcony, but would prefer some more time outside
When mine is with my parents coz I m abroad, the appartment is so sad and empty upon returning..
Mine reacted really nervously to the dark (male?) Siamese, got all nervous looking behind the computer where this demanding voice comes from.
With Alaska - I think he liked her

These cat conversations are amazing. I swear Alaska sounds like she understands every word! Look at the tone when she’s asked “Are you being cheeky?”
Every day, a friend of mine rings me up when he goes out to feed the cats. I don’t have any of my own, but this way I do get to vicariously be with some. I get to listen purrs and demands and conversations on the phone. I love the way the answer you when you ask something. And it’s very obviously an answer. I read somewhere that the cat’s meow is actually a sound reserved for cat-people interaction. Inter-cat conversations doesn’t quite feature the same meows — much fewer and quite different.

that is actually true!!!!!! (the meow!!!)
how sweet I ll appreciate it even more now!
actually my cat was in a household of several cats before. the only time you could hear him and the others meow was for food or attention, between themselves they had angry little sounds or purring.. or they let the paws speak sometimes LOL

Rewatched alaska - there is no doubt she knows she has to go inside and negotiates staying outside a bit more. see how at a certain point “alaska you need to come in” she turns to see whether she can hide a bit deeper in the cage

check this out - my Burmese actually has a “rounder” shape not the very “Egyptian Bastet” like look Alaska has, like the grown up siamese in this video. Is it a different breed? anyone knowledgeable on these differences?

I don’ t know how to tell Burmese and Siamese cats apart! My Siamese had similar coloring to many Burmese cats I’m seeing on youtube! Sort of Irish Bailey with coffee paws and face mask and tail. Mine was also round and not terribly angular.
The meows are really eloquent. On the phone, I immediately tell my friend when there’s a food meow and when it’s a conversational meow. There are also give me attention meows and one or two fairly rude meows. One of the most amazing meows I’ve heard is from my favorite Kali. This was when she brought her kittens out of hybernation and “gave” them to my friend. She said a meow that clearly said — here you go. They’re now your responsibility. Or, will you take over from here?

I wonder if the “rude” meow you are talking about is the same as what I perceive as “extreme frustration”, Mogli will make a terribly sounding “stinging” meow and while doing it breathe out, which gives it a very desperate “you owe me some more respect!!” feel.
It s kind of a give me attention meow, but the “red alert” one
and the level of demandingness is actually a bit rude. it s a command or curse i feel!
there s also “double meows” I am not quite sure what they mean, not two separate ones, but in one sound. I think it s meant as a reinforcement as if in Spanish you d say “rapido rapido” for “very fast”.
What is your rude meow like?
I used to think siamese and burmese can be told apart by the colour, I thought most Siamese would be dark and cream with blue eyes. But I too have seen so many Siamese lilac like my Burmese that I really dont know how to tell the difference.. there probably is no significant one?! I had often heard the Siamese are more “angelic” in character, where some attribute a sometimes “wicked” character to Burmese. I know mine sometimes cant help but scratch you (lightly) when you touch him, but I think it s just he s extremely playful and has too much energy sometimes. Would not have seen this as “evil character” as some say.
)
But also this opinion seems little valid as the Burmese are said to take great care of children (and Mogli trully never scratches the neighbour kids, no matter how nerve wrecking they are for him
I love this video:

watch how the cats are actually GUARDING the baby, how they both check at every suspicious sound! they re adorable..

Dina… the double meow. Meow-wow is how I hear it. It’s kind of an annoyed meow. There are other rude meows that go Waaaow. I must say though my own cat was not rude. She was extremely courteous and respectful of others’ space and privacy. I think I’d have liked a cat who was more intrusive and demanding. But this one wasn’t. Excellent huntress, very cultured, and quite elegant. Let down her guard only at cover-up time at night, when she would come purring into bed with me and sleep with her head in the crook of my elbow. BUT, then she’d wait for me to fall asleep and slink out and go back to hunting creepy crawlies.

aaaweeee the Siamese and Burmese are sooo fine when they come sleeping in your bed and really “cuddle” you
mine also is cozy and falls asleep with me but leaves the bed during the night to do other stuff.. the other day i put my alarm clock to 5 in the morning (a time I NEVER get up) when the alarm ran mogli came running and excitedly “screaming” because I d get up to stroke him
I cant believe you know the meow-wow!!! I think it s only the Burmese who do it, everyone who s heard it (and has European cats) found it frightening.
It s a VERY complaining and possibly insulting sound and my boy makes it in moments of great frustration
There is also a nice weeooww (like feeling yearning or being lonely/desperate) and a VERY irritated loud (”siren” sound
) weeoooww, which i think you are right is probably a downright insult! hadnt seen it that way LOL
seems like my boy is cursing at me pretty often!!

My sister in law would be amazed at this meow talk. She is not too sure that cats really are saying something with their meows.
By the way, my cat used to do a really weird rounded, long meow when she saw a lizard on the wall that was beyond her reach. That had a big big round -wowwwwwwwww at the end of it. I don’t know who it’s aimed at. The lizard isn’t very well going to obligingly climb down and present herself to the kitty’s claws. And I’m not about to help her get the lizard. So… what..? What’s she saying? Meeowwwwwwhhhh. And I used to stand there and say a firm sorry–I can’t help you there.
It was while she was trying to catch a lizard that my cat took a flying leap at the wall and landed back on a table that had some of my mother’s 180 decoration pieces, crashing on to a Viennese glass basket, shattering it to bits. And that’s how I lost my cat. My mom said it’s either me or her in this house. I had to give her away. I think that’s why I’ve never gotten over it.

AAAWWWEEEEE this is sad
I actually thought you had your kitty to the end
I can see how you re resenting having had to give up on her..
I know the looong yearning meeooww when seeing an insect or sth similar. I personally think it s not so much commanding the animal to come down, maybe it s “Human, you re bigger, help me there” or: mine is also doing it when seeing a fly or more so a butterfly or spider when he s alone in a room. I think it s a heart felt expression of “I want it!!”
