Exceedingly ecstatic!

… not because I got my gmail working, but because I received a package of World Dance videos that are nothing short of incredible. Ranya’s Baladi 2-disk set is amazingly conceptualized and has enough to do for months. Lovely stuff on taqsim, arm paths and improvisation in general. Her Modern Oriental is equally mouth watering.

Anasma’s 2-disk Bellydance Hip Hop Liquid fusion is stunning. Great warm up and conditioning program, isolations done like never before, and amazing drills. The hip hop part is equally fantastic. She manages to fuse the two genres like they were never apart.

Now the only problem is… do I continue work on Bellydance Rhythms, complete Luscious like I was doing, start properly with Autumn Ward’s video, get to the baladi and all the delightful nuances, go with the Egyptian and learn her choreographies, or do I head for the Anasma programme. Oh dear! Why do I have som many troubles in life!

For today, just looking through these DVDs has taken up my dance time. Particularly amazing job from WDNY.

I got Modern Oriental as well in the package from WDNY. And anasma. They’r eall wonderful.

My advice (with a pinch of salt):
1.Revise your movement vocabulary with the Autumn dvd.
2.Alternate Luscious and Bellydance Rhythms on alternate days.
3.Do the Ranya dvds first, then the Anasma dvds – my guess is you want to strengthen your egyptian foundation before you expand your dance vocabulary. However, if your aim is body conditioning and weight loss, you might want to try Anasma’s dvd first.

I feel like it’s Christmas and my birthday in one when I get a WDNY package. Ranya’s dvds…heavenly! I am going to do the bellydance part of Anasma’s as I think that would just feel really good. But my love affair with Autumn Ward’s dvd continues and I want to learn her choreography. I have not learned a choreo well yet in my life and her’s is so gorgeous, I just have to.

    Happy birthday to Dina!!

  • Mala says:

Tami.. have you seen the entire Anasma DVD set? I find the hip ho part wonderful as well. And I’m no hip hopper. Never was.

  • Mala says:

    Hey Sajia… how you bin!

I did think I better alternate the Luscious and Rhythms and not lose out on what I’d started – and almost finished. For the rest… I think it’s going to end up being Ranya and Anasma on alternate days too! I am very into conditioning at all times. I haven’t actually done any Egyptian so far. Autumn… she’ll have to be on weekends! I started work on her DVD as well and have got at least my circle looking like hers. And arms a bit as well. Oh, and the unweighted hip lft too.

thanks girls you re sweet :) ))))))))))))))))))))

I saw some of the second DVD and will watch the rest, I just never was into hip hop. However, I am ecstatic to finally have learned how to moonwalk as I have tried to do it since I was a kid. Yay! Anasma is a wonderful dancer, very talented. I am looking forward to the Fantasy Bellydance performance dvd so I can see more of her dancing. :)

  • Mala says:

You can moonwalk! Wow. I too have always wanted to do this and she explains it beautifully.

My opinion is that the entire hip hop section will add something to belly dance as well. Everything can be a little re-stylized if needed.
