I wasn’t overly interested in Anasma’s Bellydance: Hip Hop, listed on the WDNY website for a while now. I haven’t been exploring any hip hop styles at all and find that there’s more than enough to be done in regular bellydance that I haven’t yet got to. But that was before I saw the preview:
How absolutely cool! What a cute style and what a lovely fusion of hip hop and bellydance! I love the way it looks. And I love the way Anasma looks. Including everything she wears. I’m looking forward to this DVD and hope it brings a good set of different isolation drills.
The trailer for Ranya Renee’s Modern Oriental is also up and of course, the whole bellydance world is eagerly waiting for that one.
Ballet for Belly Dancers
Hehe same here.. I was insecure on whether this video would be for me, less because I do not like the powerful hip hop dancing (I actually like the aesthetics – I just think it is not for someone with bad knees.. mine ache just watching such stuff!).
I LOVE THE TRAILER! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! it s the snakey smooth form of hip hop dancing, and i am SO into that!
I was actually thinking this LOVELY long sleeved turquoise top looked somewhat Indian Mala!
Lovely style.
Awwwww! I was feeling the same, I thought it wasn’t something I’d like, but now after watching that trailer -d’oh!
Yet another one I want to buy. Anasma is just adorable, I’m not so keen on the cover pic, but in the clip she comes across as lovely.
Want want want!!
I don’t know whether the turquoise top is Indian. Can’t tell. But Anasma is lovely! She is so graceful and amazing. I’m busy watching her stuff on youtube. I like that she has a story telling style and brings something unique to tribal fusion – it’s the the same-old same-old. And I love the way she mixes hip hop ad belly dance. It gives something to both styles. Very fresh and nice. She also chooses great music. And there’s a whole month to go still for her video!
I’m also eagerly looking forward to Fayzah Claudia’s Fluid Tribal, which is supposed to come out after Anasma’s.
One of my favorite bellydancers on Youtube is Roshana Nofret, who does a modernist twist on classical Egyptian and folkloric. I think she’s a student of Bouzenka.
Oh, I’m SO EXCITED about Ranya Renee’s next video. I got my copy of The Baladi last week, and I had to lend it to a friend just so I could get my own work done.
Anasma’s looks great too. I don’t think I’ll ever move in that direction, but with WDNY videos so affordable, it might be something fun to try for a change.
It occurred to me that it actually totally makes sense to blend the two, seeing as how bellydance moves have made it into so many hip hop videos these days. Nevertheless — this doesn’t look like anything I’ve ever seen! What she’s doing looks much, much cooler. But it also wouldn’t satisfy someone who was looking for a Beyonce kinda thing, no?
What torture – to have to lend your new Ranya Renee out. I wouldn’t be able to do it. Of course, mine will take a while to arrive.
According to Neon, Anasma is endlessly and extremely creative. How amazing. She’s great just to watch!
Doesn’t the popping locking we try so hard to drill come quite easily to those who do hip hop and break dancing? I’m dying to see Anasma’s drills and am wondering if somethig there would bring a certain type of fluidity and range to regular belly dancing.
Have to check out Fayzah and Roshana!
I think given there is nothing serious out there blending hip hop and bellydance I think if advertised sufficiently with the young urban crowd for the price everyone might give it a try. even if it s not the more “street” style of dancing..
I saw on her website that she’s a singer too.
I’m really hoping for some great drills on this dvd, it looks very promising in that department…fingers crossed for something Asharah-ish in level!
I wasn’t sure what I would think of Anasma’s dvd but after seeing the youTube clip, I really want it now. It’s not what I think of as Hip Hop but like the 80′s breakdancing I always thought was cool. Can’t wait!
Oh MALA!!
did you see – WDNY has Love Potion and another burlesque dvd on the homepage.
Dying for the Love Potion trailer! it comes out around the time Luscious came out.

Costumes are great again!!

These burlesque programs look really cute. I am thinking about getting the one that s already out. The trailer looks like so much fun. Reminds me of “naughty” Marlene Dietrich performances.
Yes, I did see. Some more photos are also around on Flikr. I wanted to do an interview with all three of them but they’re a bit difficult to catch right now. I think the filming’s done though. It does look Luscious-like. I’ve been working with Luscious lately, as a matter of fact!
Looking forward to Love Potion too, but I’m not sure I agree that the costumes look great on the cover, they look like the cheap sequinned bras you can buy on ebay to me! I loved Luscious, so I’ll get it anyway.
Hmm will probably be getting it too…but have to wait for it to be on Amazon UK…
Hi Ruth!
I recall Neon saying the professional costumes for the entire workout (on dvd that s about 2 hours, so the shoot must have taken at least 2 days I estimate) were a pain.. way too heavy, making the girls sweat and suffer.
I prefer the ladies enjoying the filming, and doing many great luscious bellydance “danceouts” as Mala has termed them so well for us
So she already announced she will want to make a compromise – luscious costumes, but not heavily beaded and fringed professional bras and belts.
I do think they look pretty on the cover, but for sure it s not the pleasure for the eye like Luscious
Nooo, I want them to suffer in agony, just so that I can look at nice pretties while I dance!
I don’t know, I am drooling over those costumes!
